Omega-3 products, like Dairy Oh!, that provide the important nutrient known as DHA omega-3, improving the nutritional value of meals, as well as the overall health of Canadians.
Many people have diets lacking in an essential fatty acid called docosahexaenoic acid. Children need this fatty acid for the proper development of their eyes and brains. It is also used to treat attention deficits, depression and anxiety, and seems to be effective in treating breast cancer among premenopausal women. While fish is an excellent source of DHA, not everyone is a seafood fan. University of Guelph’s Brian McBride and Bruce Holub, along with former graduate student Tom Wright, developed an enriched milk called Dairy Oh! to provide these essential nutrients.
Working with Neilson Dairy, the trio has made milk a practical vehicle for increasing the consumption of DHA in the Canadian population.
