Natural Resources

Canada still depends heavily on what the Earth brings forth. Even in our increasingly urbanized and technological society, our livelihoods and our lives still depend on mining, forestry and other sectors that use what the Earth has to offer. Ontario university researchers are finding ways to make our use of natural resources both more profitable and more sustainable.

In many ways, sustainable exploitation of our natural resources is more crucial and more complicated than ever before. Water and ore become scarcer and more in demand. Petroleum and other carbon fuels cast a dark shadow on the environment. Forests wane and wax, while the plant world expands into the realm of polymer production and manufacturing.

Like almost everything in the 21st century, natural resources are becoming more complex, and Ontario university researchers are at the forefront of making sense of them.
