For more than 100 years, Wilfrid Laurier University has been dedicated to inspiring lives of leadership and purpose

We strive to ignite the minds, spirits, and hearts of our communities through excellence in teaching and research and in the discovery, exploration, and application of new ideas with the courage to engage and challenge the world in all its complexity.

We do this through the strategic contribution of innovative research in core areas: environment, global governance, health and well-being, and culture and the human experience.

Research at Laurier is interdisciplinary and collaborative.  Laurier has twenty research centres and institutes, including the Cold Regions Research Centre, the Laurier Institute for Water Science, the Centre for Women in Science, the Laurier Centre for Community Research, Learning, and Action, the Laurier Institute for the Study of Public Opinion and Policy, and the Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems. Laurier also has more than 20 research chairs, including nine Canada Research Chairs.

Laurier has established a reputation for community involvement and engagement.  Our researchers collaborate with other institutions nationally and internationally as well as with industry, government, and community partners.

Laurier maintains a number of formal research partnerships, including:

  • a 10-year environmental research partnership with the Government of the North West Territories;
  • partnership in the nine-university Southern Ontario Water Consortium;
  • partnership in the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and the Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA) where Laurier’s School of International Policy and Governance is housed; and
